Fossils are the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold or cast in rock.
Fossils are formed when organisms die in a watery enviroment. The soft tissues then decompose and leave behind hard material such as bone. Sediments and silt then bury the hard material while also adding pressure. Eventually the organisms structure is copied into the rock.
