Spontaeous generation is the production of living organisms from nonliving matter.
Francesco Redi"s experiment was to figure out if living things can generate from non living matter. He first placed raw meat into three seperate flasks. He then left one flask uncovered, the other two were covered with a cork and the last one was covered with plastic gauze. He left them outside for a couple of weeks then analyzed the results. The flask with the cork did not have any maggots in the meat. The flask with the plastic gauze had maggots on top of the plastic gauze. The third flask that was uncovered had a lot of maggots inside of the meat. This experiment disproved spontaneous generation.
Louis Pasteur's experiment was to see if micobial organisms would generate in broth. He boiled the broth to sterilize it. He then let the bottle with the s-curved neck sit for a couple of days. After a few days passed nothing happend so he decided to break the neck of the bottle. After the bottle with the broken neck sat for a few days there was microbes living in the broth. This experiment yet again disproved spontaneous gereation and that life can not exist with out the presence of other life.
Biogenesis: the synthesis of substances by living organisms.
Modern Ideas
Scientists hypothesize that two things happened before life could appear on Earth. The first is that there had to be organic molecules-molecules containing carbon. The second is that the organic molecules must have formed into more complex molecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. These are the materials that are absolutely necessary for life.
MIller and urey conducted the experiment to see if they could spontaneously generate life by simulating the conditions of early Earth's atmosphere. They then filled the apparatus with gases that would have been found on Earth, underneath lay a pool of water simulating Earth's oceans. They then gave and electric vurrent to the chamber simulating the lighting. After letting the experiment run for a week they looked at the cintents of the pool of water and found amino acids. By finding the amino acids they proved that life could exist in Earth's harsh enviroment because amino acids are the monomers of proteins.
The Evolution Of Cells
The first organisms on EArth were single celled archaea. The archaea then changed our atmosphere by taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and cyciling carbon andnitrogen throughout the atomosphere.
Endosymbiont Theory:says that eukaryotic cells evolved from prokaryotes. What is believed to happen is the host cell engulfs other prokaryotic cells that have different oraganelles, such as chlorplasts, and that would give the cell organelle it did not possess before.
